It brought extra light into a bright sunny Mexican day. I am absolutely delighted that you are translating Crack Capitalism. Both it and Change the World have been published in eleven languages, but no Russian. In fact, I think I have had things published in 31 languages, but no Russian! So I am really delighted to hear that someone is reading it there and that you're translating it. Wonderful! Of course you have my permission to translate it and to do whatever you like with the translation. If you could find a publisher, that would be wonderful. I have all the rights in the book, so there would be nothing to pay, no need to ask the original publisher for permission. This is actually the first direct contact that I have with Russia and I know very little about the movements there, so I'm very excited. Again many thanks and very best wishes, John On 5/22/20, 4:15 PM, "Alexander Shushpanov" wrote: Dear Mr. Holloway, my name is Alexander and I am writing to you from Moscow, Russia. I teach students at MUCTR (my area - chemical kinetics and safety of chemical production) and in my free time I think about the injustice of this world. As you write in your wonderful book "Crack Capitalism" - I am one of the flow, indeed. I read about that book in another book, by Graeber. At first I was captured by a capacious name. I immediately got a book on my Kindle and was amazed for the second time. This table of contents! It's a Manifest. I began to read and realized that we needed this book. To us, Russians. After all, we were inside one of the biggest experiments in creating another world. I remember how it ended - although I was just a schoolboy then. Years later, I realize that we are locked in a very evil fairytale. No fairies, only evil here. But the best part is that I am not alone in my awareness. I have told friends about your book many times. Quoted. Mentioned it at relevant events. "Let us read it!" they told me. Once I started translating, but my enthusiasm quickly disappeared. I did not translate for several years. And now I'm back to the translation. There were several reasons for this. First of all, one comrade complained to me that we Russians know little about foreign movements. It is clear that our movements are also suppressed and not announced. But little data comes from the world. Then the second. I accidentally found out that many students at my alma mater interested in such information, theory and practice. And colleagues too. I was invited to a discussion club as a "elder tovarisch", where the "elder" has nothing to do with verticality. This is a horizontal community. "You know a little more, so tell us." I quoted once again - and... yes, "Let us read it!" The problem is that although many Russians know the English, they know it very... conversationally. Superficially. Commonly used. Reading is, well, difficult. So I began to translate again and began to post updates to my blog (http://count0.ru). I even recreated my blog after removal in a fit of melancholy. I translated 9 chapters of your book so far. All this time I was thinking about you. I should have written you a long time ago. To tell about this doing. To ask a permission from you. So there it is. Can I do this with your book? I am not looking for profit - only for knowledge. People want to get to know your thoughts. Maybe I should not publish the book on my site? You have sections in different languages on your site - maybe I should transfer the currently translated to you? I would like to continue, and I can send you what has been done. This would be really good. In short, tell me what I can do and what should not be done. With this letter I want to connect our crack with yours. From here we can figure out how far it will run. In the long term - I would like to finish the translation this year and try to find you a publisher in Russia. I believe that our people need your book. I look forward to hearing from you and I really need your advice. Sincerely, Alexander Shushpanov.
